The scope of research works carried out in the department
- basic research on multiphase flows; searching for the ranges of occurrence of flow forms and their determination, mathematical modeling of two-phase gas-liquid flows in the field of hydrodynamics of a two-phase stream and heat exchange processes in channels of different geometry and different configuration (using modeled and real factors),
- process tests of heat transfer at boiling and evaporation of liquids and their solutions and mixtures forming heterogeneous liquid systems (e.g. waterlogged tar, oily water, water-oil emulsions),
- research, used in the aspect of the use of multiphase flows in process equipment; development of process and technological projects, construction projects of process apparatus, application works in the field of the use of apparatus in mechanical operations and processes of transformation of liquid substances and their separation (mixing and flow of emulsions, evaporation of liquids, distillation with steam, dewatering and preparation of the composition of hydrocarbon liquids and mixtures water-oil),
- research on thermal-flow processes taking place in industrial equipment and research on industrial devices; motion measurements of devices and installations, thermal balance of devices and apparatuses, etc.
The basic and applied works are aimed at understanding and describing the phenomena occurring in the gas-liquid, liquid-liquid two-phase flow and gas-liquid-liquid multi-phase mixtures, taking into account the identification of thermal-flow processes occurring in real systems, such as: flow of boiling ammonia, flow of tar-steam mixture or organic liquid-steam systems as well as water-oil heterogeneous mixtures. The application works are aimed at testing selected types of devices (evaporators, tube evaporators, film reactors, etc.) operating in the gas-liquid system.
